Adirondack Branch - American Association of University Women

Greater Glens Falls Area - New York State

Serving the Warren County/Lake George region, Washington County and northern Saratoga County

AAUW logo Branch banner The Adirondack Branch of AAUW was established in 1920. We have about 70 members from a diverse educational and employment background who work together to fulfill the mission of the American Association of University Women. The local branch is one of more than 40 branches which make up the New York State Division of AAUW.

The American Association of University Women (AAUW), a national organization, was founded in 1881 to promote equity for women, education and self-development over the life span, and positive societal change. Membership in a local branch bestows guest member status in all other AAUW branches.

Adirondack Branch activities include monthly membership program meetings and several study and interest groups.

Branch Activities

Branch membership meetings are held monthly from September through May. Recent program topics have ranged from meeting local authors, to cancer prevention and survival, to a fundraising dessert theater.

Study and interest groups usually meet monthly on a variety of days and times. At present there are two Literature groups, a Gourmet group, and an Interesting Places group. New groups are formed based on members' requests and interests.

In addition to supporting the national AAUW Educational Foundation, the branch provides its own Adirondack Branch Memorial Scholarship. Through the years, contributions have been made to the fund to honor the memory of various members who have passed away. The scholarship is awarded annually to an area student presently attending an accredited college, working for a degree at the associates, bachelor or graduate level.

Excerpts from our current branch newsletter, Adirondack Glimpses, are included in this web site.

Branch Board meetings are generally held monthly except for summer months; members are always welcome to attend. The Branch Bylaws are available on this web site as a pdf (Adobe Acrobat Reader) file.
